My Bosch rotak 40 corded lawnmower cuts out slowly (no not long grass) then after about a minute can restart then slowly cuts out again. Is it likely to be a motor thermal cut off issue, starter switch fault or something else?

Too, although a bit quirky, the coils on these machines tend to run hot and reduce the spark to intermittent which causes starting problems

There must have been a source of backfires or hard stops. I wonder if the key slots are long enough to run a longer key. Also, if the flywheel taper and crank tapers are not perfect and perfectly clean or if the flywheel bolt torque is too low, then your not getting a good lock on the taper and it's moving back and forth beating the key at running loads.

I have the same mower for over one year. Never had a problem of any kind, it's very easy to use, especially for a 72 years old lady who has 1/2 acre land. 😁🤞

I have a newer one, with a Briggs 9 ft pound engine that has an oil filter. Anyway, it seems like the differential is locked? This meaning, it turns fine, forwards, or backwards. But when you turn the mower, it is locked like a solid axle. In drag race terms, it is like a locked, welded, or spool on the rear axle. I have 3 older Snapper 21 inch mowers with the same or similar self propelled system. Those all let the wheels move freely when making a turn.

Hopefully this will help you. UA-cam: "Why your lawn mower or generator backfires/misfires and how to fix." EASY. The presenter gives a great explanation. Back to the valves, he said it is 100% of the time the Valves also check the flywheel key, which also goes to the valves for timing. I have the same problem with my DR Mower with a Kawasaki FC 420V. The presenter said "Try tapping the intake valve with a soft mallet" to break loose the buildup on the valve. The additives in the gasoline build up around the Intake Valve. Hopefully this will resolve both of our problems since they appear to be the same. If it is the exhaust valve, it will normally have a bent stem.

I wish people would use the right descriptive term. Cranking means the starter is spinning the engine. When it fires up it is running, not cranking.

Teryl Fixes All had an episode on what a CRAP shoot these engine's can be and I looked up at least a dozen different "Aftermarket" Cams that had 90% good feedback but the 10% that fail can be catastrophic !! Fleabay and amyzoon both have reviews that make me want to scrap my 20 hp "Gold Edition" ? B S💩 engine..

Great idea, but some mowers like Honda have 2 blades. The blade that 'mulches' has a hole that your balancer will not accommodate.

Mine was working the. Stopped after hitting g something. When I pull the cable I hear a screeching sound and wheel won’t move. Almost like an obstruction. I went to the gear box but just lost some lubricant.
